I strongly recommend you read this:

https://www.penguin.co.uk/nf/Book/BookDisplay/0,,0_0141885289,00.html

That's said if you eat in McDonalds a book might be a bit of a challenge.....sorry poor joke Wink

Anyway the book is more than just a dig at McDonalds, it shows how the fast food industry represents much of what is wrong with our society today. The section on E Coli is a good read, someone gets it and p*sses blood out their arse until the toilet overflows...nice!

I think if there is a McDonalds, KFC etc in large town centres only then that’s fine, it's the fact that there is a f*cking outlet on every roundabout that p*sses me off!

Eric Schlosser also wrote a book called "Reefer Madness... and Other Tales from the American Underground ", containing essays about three industries in America. Drugs (specifically marijuana), illegal immigrants, and finally porn.

A good read.

Herbaldayz, in my one theres four cctv cameras so no one can spit in the food and such or give out freebies as its linked upt oa big tv in the mangers office which is right next to the food preparation area anyway.
We aren't quite that bad, we're told to put a certain amount of ice in, but we dont salt the burgers to my knowledge. But then, I'm more on the customer side of things rather than the food preparation, so stand out front looking pretty and doing kid's parties rather than flipping burgers.
We get tonnes of chavs in, and I'm the first to boot them out. if they give me cheek, I threaten to call the cops and point out the cctv cameras to then, and they usually scarper. Failign that, they usually know someone or other one shift who tells them to bugger off. We get them in the play area to, which I don't stand for as its unfair on the kids who its intended for.
Spitfire, you're silly, course I can read, I'm studying Classical and Archaeological Studies at university you dumbass! Wink

The burgers and the fries, unless you decided to salt the coke and nuggets as well, think it may well have been just you doing that.

Nope, I remember someone getting a bollocking for putting a silly amount of ice in once.

Shaking them means you have to add mroe they dont want to do this.

Strange we were told to shake them, if you didn't by the time you walked back to the till the carton looked empty since they'd fell down at their own accord.

I dont understand the retard that named these if its a double qtr pounder then its a Half pounder .Surely this sounds better (The new meaty half pounder)

Strange, I always called it a double quarter with cheese, usually it was just some of the more retarded staff that put the pounder on the end, oh wait! Wink

Worst of all is what happens behind hte scenes ive seen people put a chicken nugget in there mouth then back into the warming tray .Ive seen burgers dropped an picked up .Ive seen people eating the food while working .

Yet you did nothing about it, you're just as bad as they are, I've never seen anything of the sort or possibly you're just running off some of the usual urban myths related with fast food outlets.

Why should i the customer have to sort out there problems .They should see there annoying people an ask them to leave but do they like fuck .Why cus half of them are actualy friends of peopel who work there

A few friends go to maccies to have a chat rather than sit in the streets and some knob kicks off on them because he won't mind his own business and stop listening to their conversations, gay.

Oh an yes I did work there, for about a year then left for better things. Wink

I especially love the way I've been there since November last year and have since become 'Customer Care manager'. Makes me laugh because I've been on a one day course and had no real training, I just have to ask along the way, depsite the fact I'm supposed to have a workbook to fill out, and a 50-question exam to assess if I'm good enough etc.
Some girl's been there for almost 2 years and is on £4.37. She's tubby, lazy, and whinges all the time. I've been there few months and on £5.30...pretty easy job to advance in, you just act really cheerful and work hard.
HerbalDayZ, I'm the petite blonde who wears a black shirt and a gold badge. Says Liz, Customer Care Manager on. You'll find me unblocking some shit from a bog or being slapped by infants. Smile

Well the BBC link in the initial post of this topic says:

Quote:
McDonald's has about 1,250 restaurants in the UK, 63% of which are company-owned while the rest operate under franchise.

Oh man, of all the people I disagree with it had to be you didn't it, hehe... Ok will try and keep this civil I promise Smile

So... I worked at McDonald's about 5 years ago now, so this information may be old. When I worked there I moved between 3 different stores and the rules, payment rates, work methods and bonus schemes were absolutely set in stone by McDonalds corporate.

While each individual franchise store manager was allowed to run each resteraunt individually, they still had to follow the rule else they lost their franchise status. This is why you see Krispy Fried Chicken stores which used to be KFC's - they've broke the KFC rules and thus get de-franchised.

In all three McDonalds stores the rules were very strict, and they had a policy for everything you could think of. It was a high stress environment and also (surprising to some) an *incredibly* hygenic one too. Every 30-60 minutes an alarm goes off and you have to finish what you're doing and then go wash your hands, regardless of whether you needed to or not.

Anyhow, after working there I still wasn't put off by the place and still eat there occasionally today (the salads are ace...)

My 2c anyhow Smile

ok so for you swearing in public in front of a kid is worse than threatening strangers with violence.

Personally I think thats fucked up.

I dont think Shaun was trying to make McDonalds sound perfect.

McDonalds food may not be great but its better than a lot of stuff you can get in a town centre.

McDonalds are run very efficiently so they arent so bad for the environment as they reduce waste. They just get targeted by those railing against the modern world as a familiar target.

Given a choice between a cold sandwich from a shop or a nice cheap hamburger or two, id have the hamburger.

Fries are a bit hit or miss depending on whether they are fresh or not but bread and burger with a bit of salt isnt really the food of satan. If you eat too much of anything it wont be good for you.

Shaun here we go again all ill say its obvious you worked there an trying to keep some dignity

My dignity is intact, I left school and didn't want to go to college so instead I got a job and took the first one offered to me because I wanted money.

I aren't trying to make it sound perfect, far from it but you came across as making it out to be the scum of the earth where people spit in your food, drop your food on the floor and serve it to you then conspire to rip you off with salt and portions of fries. This isn't the case in my years experience there, if you dropped a piece of meat you kicked it into the corner whilst you sorted the rest of it out then whacked it into the waste bin.

Cleanliness shocked me, hands washed reguarly, the cleaning on a close shift was spot on, McDonalds is not the dirty dingy place some people like to make it out to be. It's a place that sells fast food, you're more likely to get ill from eating something from a burger bar on the street than you are from McDonalds by far.

As for franchise stores, they work in the same manner the rest of the stores do, I know this from experience.

i think its cool and funny that mister james agreed with everything i said

we have spent a few hours on different threads hotly debating various matters and it sometimes seems like we always disagree

If I had kids I would be more strict about disapproving of violence than swearing. There are parents who are the same so I'm not that unusual.

I dont know where Swanley is. In my profile it says I live in Dudley because I live in Dudley.

when you say furness do you mean furnace ? I cant tell if you are vaguely threatening me with throwing me into a furnace or asking if I know of a local landmark that you are familiar with.

Id agree with shaun that mcdonalds are more hygienic than your average street burger stand.

i know someone who used to work for the guy who runs the burger stall at the wheel (biker meet pub). It was his policy to bag up burgers that had been cooked but not bought, and reheat them and serve them the next day. Not something McDonalds wd do but probably something I would at home to be honest.
