Hello, all.
This is my first post in this forum.
It seems this is a UK site.
I am from the UK, but I live in Japan.
This isn't really a greeting message.
This is a heads-up, not a call for help, for others who maintain their own bike (or, as in the case of my commuter, a 2015 PCX scooter).
I have just stripped down the front calliper to inspect and replace some parts as routine work. I noticed that (what I believe to be) the noise reduction strip was sitting at the wrong angle (behind the pads, above the pad springs). This prevented me from pulling the bracket from the calliper without force. Thinking that the calliper bracket was one piece and that the strip/tab/clip could not be coaxed back into position, I coaxed it out of the way (... bent it with pliers) to get the bracket and calliper apart. Not sure whether I ought to ignore it as a mostly redundant part, I spoke with the dealer I got the parts from. In fact the bracket is not one piece on my bike, and I have removed the strip and will ride without it.
Long story short...
If you're pads have pad grease (usually copper grease), and your floating calliper sliding pins have grease (usually silicone grease), you don't need these things.
Not a very profound or grand first post in the forum, I know, but if you, too, are a DIY owner mechanic trying to save money and learn to do as much as possible yourself, this might help.
Happy trails. ____________________ Three cheers for Honda... and three boos for Yamaha. |
